What one LPA pilot does when he's not in Alaska

So what does an LPA pilot do when he's not here in Alaska skimming the mountain tops and exploring steaming volcanoes in Lake Clark National Park?
Well this year took us south of the border where we decided to try and replenish our vitamin D supplies.
Many moons ago I set one of my life goals, a bucket list of sorts, to sail to Australia.
In order to sail to Australia one would think it prudent to learn to run one of those triangle flappy things that run up the mast on a boat, so that is what we endeavored to do.
A week of sailing lessons living aboard with our instructor,
then a week of practicing our skill alone on the high seas!
There are other things that we do during the long winters as well. For me it's: do a huge house project and try really hard and fail to complete it before the bulge in my tiny wife's tummy explodes.
There are some things that really don't prepare a guy for bringing these kind of things home! Wow!
My wife is a classic over achiever! Most ladies hold their children in their bellies for 40 weeks, well my sweet little lady held it in for 42 : ) The prize at the end of that journey was certianly worth every moment of it, though the last couple days are filled with crazy memories!
Thank you Lord for the complete and utter miracle of birth!
I would like to introduce to you the newest addition to the Wilder clan...

He's known as Bones in these parts.

The view out of the Lake and Pen Air office window as we prepared to go home Friday evening...
And the sunrise from that same window on Monday morning...

Flight above the Alaska Mountain Range

An afternoon flight above the Alaska Mountain Range from Anchorage to PortAlsworth
gives a clear view of the winds wreaking havoc on the snowy peaks below.
Brrrr..... winter in Alaska can be chilly.
But the wind and snow don't bother me at all. I'm relaxed and cozy in my window seat thankful
for the amazing father/son duo in the front, who enjoy talking their way between destinations.
As the sun begins to set it leaves beautiful markings in the sky and landscape
that I'm compelled to photograph.
As we bank back towards the East for our landing at PortAlsworth I can see the ice growing it's way up Lake Clark. Soon we'll be able to ice fish, cross country ski, and snow machine between villages.
There is always something exciting to look forward to here in remote Alaska.
The beauty of the changing seasons brings great anticipation of the fun about to be had.

Adios Brian!

Brian is taking a winter work siesta - and going on a motorcycle adventure with his wife Karoline!
They are planning an epic ride from Seattle, Washington down to Panama.

I'm thinking they're gonna have some major saddle shaped legs by April.
But who cares.... the memories will be amazing!

We had a goodbye fiesta for him at Flattop last night. A few slices of pizza and a few games of pool. One final happy get together to send Senior Party Planner on his way to tortilla-ville.
This is the last, and actually the only, photo of MRI's FunTeam: El Loco & La Nina.
We're really glad your out to explore the world Muchacho, but hurry back pronto!
