Lake and Pen Air's Store and Consignment

We recently refreshed our LPA store! We have new hoodies and hats, and some cool t-shirts in stock right now! Come check out our selection for men, women and children.
Get yourself a hot coffee mug before our debut collection runs out, and fill it with our complementary coffee to sip as you browse the art work in our consignor case - we added two new consignors last month!
Dirt Runway Designs brought in a nice selection of amazing handmade earnings and necklaces. Each piece is made with real salmon skin, birch bark, bullets, or aeronautical maps of Port Alsworth! Stop by our Anchorage office to find yourself a treasure, or check out the Easy shop: DirtRunwayDesigns
MadeForFun, which only makes originals, also has a few things in the store. We have several fabric bags in a variety of sizes, and six different Alaska themed postcards. To see everything available, or place a custom order, go to: madeforfunfun.blogspot.com

Can you find the adorable Beaver Fur Bear in the case above? We're all waiting with baited breath to see who will scoop it up. Fun Fact: the bear was hand made by our very own skin-sewing, Chief Pilot and LPA owner - Lyle Wilder! It would make an epic stocking stuffer, souvenir, baby's first stuffed animal...

Switchback Kids!

The cutest couple flew with us this week.

Cole and Elizabeth are newly wed's from Kansas City. Last year they left their jobs for the year long adventure of traveling to all 59 US National Parks during the Centennial.

Lake Clark National Park and Katmai National Park were two of the last three parks on their list.

They chose Lake and Pen Air to fly them from Anchorage to Port Alsworth for three gorgeous days of exploration in the park! Then we took them from Port Alsworth to Katmai to see some bears. Oh yeah!
Follow the adventures of this chill, but focused, duo at switchbackkids.com

Find out how they saw all 59 US National Parks in 52 weeks, see their beautiful photos and videos,
and get tips & tricks & budget info - in case you want to have the adventure of a lifetime too!

Thanks so much for flying with Lake and Pen Air!

In-Flight Photo Shoot

Lyle, CJ, and Laura teamed up for in-flight photo shoot of Lake and Pen Air's new Grand CaravanEX.

No matter what angle you see her from, 08W is just stunningly beautiful!
Look at her gliding over the pristine waters of Lake Clark, just a few minutes out of Port Alsworth.
Yeah, we're just cruising along the cliffs near the head of the lake, where the glacier water fed creeks flow out of the Lake Clark Mountain Pass and stir up the aqua lake water as they meet.
Can you see the heat waves blurring out the trees under the belly pod? We've never been more in love. And all the pilots of the world said "Ohhhhhh yeah baby!"
That's it for now, but be on the lookout for other fun shots in future LPA material.

Alaska Adventure: The Tanalian Falls

When in Port Alsworth, even for just a couple hours, visiting The Tanalian Falls is a must do.
The Falls are the meeting place between the spectacular Lake Kontrashabuna
and the rushing Tanalian River, that flows into Lake Clark.
It's only a couple miles of walking, and worth the view from every bend in the trail.
Welcome to the Lake Clark National Park!

Bush Flying 101 - Traveling with ice cream

Traveling with ice cream is sooooo easy in the winter.

But now that it’s summer, you may wonder how it will survive the hour+ flight to your Alaskan Bush home without turning into chilled sweet soup?

Totally legit concern!

Lake and Pen Air is fairly excellent at keeping solids solid - it’s basically one of our superpowers.

Here is LPA's three part secret...
First, we keep your ice cream in our super cold freezer until just before boarding.
Second, we pack your tub of deliciousness in one of our heavy duty coolers.
Third, we put the cooler in the belly pod of the plane - which is basically a freezer in the air.

So go ahead, buy that ice cream, and you’ll be able to use an ice cream scoop to fill your bowl at home tonight. You can thank us tomorrow!

All kinds of creatures fly with LPA

We fly all kinds of passengers on our planes.

Recently these cute little feathered fellows were on board, headed for someones yard in Port Alsworth. They tweeted happily as we carefully transported them to their new home.
We're sure they're gonna love it in Port Alsworth, and their humans will surely love the fresh coop to table eggs. Free range takes on a whole new meaning on the banks of Lake Clark.
